Cleveland Segway Tours

Karl C. Johnson is a great fan of
Cleveland, a fact that is evident to everyone
he encounters.
Johnson conducts personalized walking,
automobile and Segway tours of the city
that he calls home.
A Cleveland native, Johnson enjoys
sharing his city with visitors.
“I love people,” he
said. “And, I love this city.”
Johnson went to the
library to learn the history
of Cleveland, shaped
by his life experience of
growing up in the
Glenville area, along
with his later years in Shaker Heights and
Ohio City.
“I wanted to give a tour that was not
architectural,” he said. “It’s not a Gray Line
tour.”
His walking tours last two hours. Tour I,
the downtown tour, includes politics, government,
transportation, history, economics,
current events, and personal experiences.
He is a resident of Ohio City. Tour II provides
a front-porch view of who lives where
and which houses have been restored.
Tour II begins and ends at the West Side
Market, one of the finest indoor markets in
the world with more than 100 merchants.
(No pets, please, in the market.)
Segway tours are one hour long, and
cover more territory. Each person in the
tour, up to a maximum of six people, has
their own Segway. Each group is given a
choice of full tour narration, meaning fewer
miles covered, or less narration and more
miles. Johnson often stops to describe certain
landmarks in detail.
Automobile and bus tours are designed
to specifically highlight the areas of the city
each tour group desires to visit.
Segway and car tours leave from Tower
City Centre, on Cleveland’s Public Square,
walking tours from the West Side Market.

(Tours depart and end at Public Square)

•View the bell that tolled when Abraham
Lincoln’s body was brought through
Cleveland;
•See a Civil War memorial, a World War II
submarine/museum and a Great Lakes
freighter/museum.

Walking tour II: Near West
Side and Ohio City

(Departs from and ends at the West Side
Market on market days: Mondays,
Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays).

•See stately Victorian homes and beautifully
renovated workers’ cottages;
•See a stop on the Underground Railroad;
•See an “Andrew Carnegie Free Library;”
•The tour ends at the West Side Market,
one of the finest indoor food markets in the
world and recently named “One of the Ten Best Public Places in America.”
